Our paid internships provide opportunities at the IDB, IDB Invest , and IDB Lab. Positions are available in our headquarters in Washington, D.C., our offices throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Europe, and at the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) in Argentina.  

You'll be working in a hybrid modality with our teams  during  this program.  Our hybrid modality is a mix of in-person attendance at our offices and teleworking.

Availability

Depending on the location, you need to be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (up to 32 hours per week).

Active student

Be an active undergraduate student (minimum in the third year of college) or graduate-level student (minimum of 50% of coursework completed).

Consanguinity and 1st Job

This should be your first job at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab and you may not have relatives working at any of these organizations.

Internships at our headquarters

During two months of hands-on experience, you will be part of teams providing operating and corporate solutions to clients from the public and private sectors.  

This program is offered twice a year: January 16th to March 15th (Winter) and June 16th to August 15th (Summer). Each competitive process begins approximately three months in advance.  Please check our timeline for updates.

How to apply?
  1. Create an account in our system, entering a username and password linked to an email account. If you are already a registered user, please sign in.  
  2. Apply to the internship by filling out all the questions in the posting.  
  3. Attach the following documents in pdf format:    
  • Resume including contact information and location  
  • Cover Letter   
  • Bio-page of your passport (at this step of the process, it is optional to submit it, but it is required if you are selected)  
  • Proof of enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree that clearly shows the total credits required for graduation and the credits completed so far.  
  • Official Academic Transcripts issued by the academic institution; it must include a list of all the courses taken and grades. Please do not send copies of other types of certificates and courses (e.g. digital marketing certificate).  

All these documents (except the passport) must have been issued within the last three months and can be submitted in any of our four official languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French)  

  1. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to make any changes once the application period is over.  
  2. Check that you have received a confirmation email, where you can see the internship name and identification number.  

At the IDB, we review all the resumes received and only contact pre-selected candidates who will move on to the next steps.

Do you make any exceptions as to age and nationality?

Those who do not meet the age requirement for a given internship at the IDB are eligible for other job opportunities posted here 

In terms of nationality, the IDB and the IDB Lab do not make any exceptions. However, internships at IDB Invest have no nationality restrictions.  

Do I need a work permit?

All candidates outside the U.S. need a valid visa to work at our headquarters.  If you are selected for the internship, our Human Resources Department will guide you through the process.  

If you are an international student in the U.S., please consult with your school before applying. We are aware several students may be limited to part-time opportunities depending on their academic standing.  If you get selected to participate in the program, you will need to present a valid work authorization - Curriculum Practitioner Training (CPT) - for the duration of the internship. 

Does the IDB cover any expenses?

While our internships are paid, interns are responsible for their travel, housing and subsistence expenses.

Internship at our Country Offices

This program is designed for you to boost your career in international development and improve your own country’s quality of life.  

We have 26 offices across Latin America and the Caribbean, plus offices in Asia, Europe, and the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) in Argentina. To qualify for this internship program, you must be a citizen of and live in the country where the office you apply for is located.

Our internship opportunities in Country Offices do not have a defined timeline. Dates depend on our business needs, from 8 weeks to 6 months, so please make sure to constantly review our open positions and set a notification alert here.

Types of opportunities

An IDB program for women who challenge, innovate, and shape the tech world in the region. At the IDB we believe in the importance of finding solutions to facilitate women’s entry into technical fields.   

Young Women in Tech is a one-year entry-level program for women affiliated and trained by Laboratoria in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru who seek to gain experience as web developers and UX-designers.  

Those who join our program will have the opportunity to work for IDB teams in Washington, D.C., in person or remotely, depending on the position. 

Citizenship

Be a citizen of a Bank member country.

Availability

To work full-time within predefined dates.

Laboratoria graduate

Have graduated from a Laboratoria Bootcamp.

Consanguinity

Not have relatives at IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Age

Be between 21 and 33 years old.

1st Job

At the IDB, IDB Invest or IDB Lab.

How to apply?
  1. Explore our openings through the Laboratoria Alumni and job postings site. These open once a year.
  2. Create your user account in our system, entering a username and password linked to an email account. If you are already a registered user, just sign in.  
  3. Upload your CV, high school or university diploma that certifies the completion of your studies, and Laboratoria’s Bootcamp graduation certificate. 
  4. Apply to up to 3 positions within the program which best fit your skills, interests, and location needs.   
  5. You will receive a confirmation email for each application submitted with the name of the position and identification number. 

At the IDB, we review all the resumes and will only contact pre-selected candidates who move on to the interview phase.
